From the Netherlands to Norway - a dream come true
When the Landman family moved from the Netherlands to Norway in 2008, they had a vision of running a farm in a sustainable and localised way.
In 2016, they took over the farm Gjermundnes in Åmli, and since then Arno and Selma, together with their employees, have built up an impressive farm. With around 130 animals, of which 50 are dairy cows, they produce a range of dairy products that are sold both in the farm shop and to local organisations such as Åmli Kakebakeri.
A meeting with the farm
On arrival, we're greeted by the entire Landman family and immediately receive a warm introduction to life on the farm. We visit the cowshed, where we meet the calves and learn about the operation. Arno enthusiastically tells us about the farm's work with artificial insemination and how the cows get all the care they need to produce quality milk. In the barn, we meet both the cows and the advanced milking equipment, and Selma shows us the process from start to finish. It's clear that well-being and animal welfare take centre stage here, which is also reflected in the high quality of the products.
Self-service farm shop - a mecca for local food
The shop at Åmli Gårdsmeieri is a treasure for food lovers. Here you'll find everything from whole milk, chocolate milk and whipped cream to yoghurt, butter and sour cream. The products are made with care, and the shelves are constantly being filled with new goodies - soon also eggs and meat from our own animals. We buy several of these locally sourced delicacies before being shown to the caravan park.
Motorhome idyll by the Nidelva river
The family offers several idyllic pitches for motorhomes, both in the yard and at the rental cabins along the Nidelva river. We choose the site down by the cabins, where a sauna and shelter add extra charm to the place. Here we roll out the awning and enjoy a few relaxing hours by the water's edge. The view is fantastic, and the spot is perfect for quiet evenings around the campfire.
An evening of flavour and atmosphere
For dinner, we cook cod in the motorhome's kitchen, before letting nature's own heat lamp, the sunset, set the mood for the rest of the evening. After a quiet night, we wake up refreshed and thank the Landman family for their hospitality. They will be travelling to the Netherlands for some well-deserved days off, but we will take the memories of their stay with us on our trip.
