Two Nortrippers - one shared enthusiasm

Nortrip is about more than just free campervan parking - it's about real experiences, local food and warm encounters with hosts across Norway and Sweden. In a recently published article from Bobilturen.no we get to know two Nortrippers who use the Nortrip guide in completely different ways - but with the same enthusiasm.

From boating to motorhome adventure

Svanhild and Terje Salte from Jæren have swapped boating for motorhomes and have made Nortrip a natural part of their travels. They plan their trips based on experiences, and Nortrip hosts become natural stops along the way. For them, it's about experiencing more than just a car park - it's about meeting people, tasting local food and enjoying the tranquillity of unique places.

They have visited everything from farm shops and cafés to smokehouses and vineyards. One memory that stands out is a small farm in Sweden with chickens, geese, smoked salmon and a hostess who took the time to show them around. They had lunch and local food on the way - not because they had to, but because it felt right.

Svanhild describes the Nortrip guide as a guide for those who like to explore, meet people and experience the genuine. She also emphasises the importance of being a good guest - showing respect and appreciation for the host.

Experiences and safe accommodation

Melanie Endemann from Arendal, Norway, uses her converted van as a base for business trips. She gives courses in the use of seaweed and kelp, and she travels across large parts of the country. For her, seaweed tripping is a safe and flexible solution - a way to combine work with little adventures along the way.

She uses the Nortrip guide all year round and appreciates knowing that she's welcome. Although she doesn't feel pressurised to shop, she's happy to do so when it's convenient - both to support the hosts and because it gives her something extra.

Melanie hopes more hosts will join the Nortrip network, and encourages people to tip off farms and small businesses about the opportunity. She sees Nortrip as a win-win solution - both for travellers and for hosts.

More than just parking

Both Nortrippers emphasise that Nortrip provides more than just a place to stay. It provides access to nature experiences, local food, culture and genuine hospitality. It's a way of travelling that provides meaning - and memories.

Whether you're on holiday or work, with a big motorhome or a small van, the Nortrip guide gives you the opportunity to experience something real. As Melanie says:

"There's nothing better than waking up and knowing you can buy fresh bread nearby!"
